Hi

I have a XP Professional copy, P4 Prescott at 2.8 Ghz with Sp1. I downloaded and instaled
I installed also the SP2 for two weeks
I got the MSblast window ("you computer will be shout down ...etc) and i erased all
svchost.exe registry entry. My system crashed and i entered my XP professional SP1 included
and i tried to reinstall the OS.
Here is the error messages

" Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. Error code is 426
" The signature of Windows XP SP1 Professional is invalid. The error code is 800b0100

I tried all the trick described in here and no result. The system make the same infinite loop
The CD-ROm is the first boot option also i tried the "catroot2 to catold" trick
I forgot to mention that i do not want to loose the OS, because all my registered programs and
all my work is there. Also i have the legit XP SP1 copy with license

Please help

Thanks very much for your help

I just wanted to recover my previous XP. I do not care if this is still infected.
I insist, CAN ANYONE HELP ME??

Thanks.

From your description of the problem, I do not believe it will be
possible to recovery your "previous XP". To rescue data that you didn't
back up, either 1) boot with Knoppix (Linux distro that runs from cd)
and use it to burn your data to cd-r's; or 2) slave the hard drive in
another working system and copy the data off, However because your
system is still infected, method #1 would be better; or 3) take the
machine to a good local computer repair shop for data rescue (not a
BestBuy or CompUSA type of store because they won't do data rescue) and
repair - please be sure to tell them your computer is still infected.
They will manage fine if you don't tell them ahead of time, but it is
just polite to do so.

Then format the drive and clean install Windows, install programs from
cd's (you can not save programs from your previous installation, only
data), and restore data from backups.

Good luck,

Malke

Thanks very much for your reply

I do believe that someone should tell me how to recover it. I am very dissapointed. I do not like Windows XP so much after this. I just want my previous OS. Not upgrade not anything. I want my infected system back. It's my right hand. The virus was innofensive. I have a very good firewall and all svchost modules was blocked.

PS: I saw that the microsoft support costs 35$. This is very dissapointing, very ..

Please someone help.

I told you how to fix it. I also told you that - based on your
description of the problem -the previous installation is damaged beyond
usability. Again, working from your description of the problem, I
believe the only thing that can be done is to rescue the data because
the previous installation is *not* recoverable. You messed it up too
much. Of course, I can't see your computer from here so my suggestions
(which were quite detailed) can only be taken as suggestions, not as
gospel. Take your machine to a local computer repair shop.

Thank you so much Malke

I had heared many problems solved with this error. One of them is the boot option (Cd-rom boot first). Other is the damaged memory module. Also i navigated in microsoft pages and found this

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823303&Product=winx

In my case is not working. Is this SP2 so bad?? I will try one more day. If i will not be able to solve it i will reinstall a fresh copy

Thanks in advance

But honestly you are idiot

# I installed also the SP2 for two weeks

Why did you installed BETA software in production environment when Microsoft advised you not to do so

# I got the MSblast window ("you computer will be shout down ...etc

How did you get it when you had firewall

# and i erased all svchost.exe registry entry

Have you heard of "Save early, Save often" saying
Why haven't you exported registry entries so you can restore them later

# and i entered my XP professional SP1 included and i tried to reinstall the OS

Why reinstall? Why not repair

First thing you did is to damage registry which is crucial for system integrity
Then you screwed up system files

And now you would like to restore it and you don't have backup

TODO list

1. Take the HDD out and make backup of you data file
2. Format HD
3. Install XP SP1 fresh using your legal product ke
4. Get all driver updates, hotfixes and critical updates and install the
5. Get all your programs and install the
6. Set everything way you want it and restore data file
7. BACKUP YOUR SYSTE

And next time pay someone to help you in areas where you are incompetent
