MS is preparing a 64 bit version of XP. Anybody know when it'll
ship ??

It already shipped--on March 28 of this year. If you're
considering getting it, be aware that it won't run on ordinary
computers and needs special hardware.

You don't need it unless you have 64-bit programs. Standard 32-bit programs
have to run in emulation mode and tend to run slower than they would on a native
32-bit system.

Also, you could buy about three nice 32-bit systems for what you'd have to pay
for one 64-bit system.

In time, regular consumer systems will start tilting toward 64 bit. But that's
probably at least a few years and a couple of new Windows versions away.
