64 bit processor

Windows XP has a 64-bit version which will run on x64 processors (see :
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/default.mspx)

If you don't want to buy a new version of the OS, you can still run your x86
(32-bit) version on a 64 bit processor. Obviously when you do that you are
not able to run 64-bit applications, as your OS is only 32 bit

Before you go off an just buy a 64-bit processor, please ensure that the
rest of your hardware (to begin your motherboard) support such processors.

Edwin.

If I get a 64 bit processor, will Windows XP work on it?

Yes but it's only available as an OEM version so you can't transfer it
to another machine later. Also there aren't that many 64-bit Windows
applications yet and I hear there's a shortage of 64-bit drivers.

Having abandoned my search for truth.
I am now looking for a good fantasy.

If I get a 64 bit processor, will Windows XP work on it?

Yes, with either the 32 or 64 bit version of Windows. I suggest getting the
64-bit version if you're going to be running on a 64-bit processor,
otherwise there's not much point in moving to 64-bit anyway...
