Hello everyone I have run into a dilemma.
I got a PC in 2002 and last year I got a new and bigger HDD.
So I had to reinstall windows.
Everything was fine until My Pc crashed a couple of months ago and was
analyzed with a screwed Mobo
I went and bought a new Mobo AND Processor and the processor is a AMD
Athlon 64-bit 3000+
Everything was fine until the new HDD screwed up and I lost all of my
data.
So I reverted to the old HDD and everything is fine.
But recently I downloaded a patch for UT2004 (a pc game) to make it
compatible with 64-bit Processors (it's from AMD's Site)
All it does is make a new executable file that is 64-bit. You just have
to change the shortcuts, thats all.
So I double click the file and suddenly windows says that it is not a
valid win32 application.
Please note that while searching on the net I found that there is a
version of windows that is 64-bit. Do I need to upgrade to this
version? or download a patch or something?

thanks,
Stewart Webb

Is your version of Windows 64 bit? Can't run 64 bit software on 32 bit
Windows.

I dont believe so. Is there a way to find out? Also if it is not
64-bit, will I have to Buy windows again? Or is there some kind of
patch I can Download off Microsoft?

When did you purchase Windows XP x64?

I never did. I only recently heard of windows XP x64

Then you have 64 bit hardware and are running a 32 bit operating system on
top of it.
Nothing innately wrong with that - and you have likely avoided some issues
by doing so. =)
You have not been taking full advantage of your hardware either.

Start button --> RUN --> winver --> OK.
Top of that window tells you what you are running.
If it does not say x64 - then you are not running 64 bit Windows XP.
Microsoft used to have a trade-in program for 32 to 64bit.. I think thjat
has gone away.
So - if you want it - you have to purchase it.

You probably shouldn't have installed the 64bit patch for UT2004 as
you are probably running the 32bit version. Just because the hardware
is 64bit doesn't mean you are running 64bit. You are more than likely
running 32bit windows on a 64bit machine. I wouldn't upgrade until there
are more 64bit drivers for windows XP.

You'll need to use a 64-bit OS before you can use 64-bit applications.

The 64-bit patch only created NEW .exe files. They didn't overwrite the
old 32-bit ones. It suks that i have to play 32-bit though.

You didn't buy 64 bit Windows?
