I don't run any games. I do a few photos, but I don't think I would ever
"push" the computer hard. I just do normal, everyday, type computing. All
other things being equal would I see any difference between a computer with
a 533MHZ FSB and an 800MHZ FSB? I have read responses to similar questions,
and the answer always ends up with some way out, complicated discussion that
ends with yet more questions. Is there a simple, uncluttered answer to this
question?
Thank you for your time.

Greetings,

CPUs with 800MHZ FSB are alot faster than the ones with 533MHZ FSB. Only
pure gamers would processers with 800Mhz. You can just stick with a 533MHZ
FSB which is still EXTREMLY fast and it's cheaper by a few bucks...

Thanks and best of luck!

Hi,

Unless you plan on high-end graphics or power gaming, a 533MHz FSB will be
plenty fast for you. Remember that those advertised FSB speeds are maximums
that are usually used only with the maximum speed processor for that
motherboard. Quite often, you will find that the real speed in use is quite
a bit less, and that's *still* plenty fast for the vast majority.

Almost certainly not. My present system has a 1500MHz CPU and a 400MHz
FSB and I feel no need to upgrade. Generally unless you feel need for
cutting edge no matter what, the best course in getting a new
m'board/procesor/machine is to aim at what was cutting edge in the
previous round.

Thank you for the replies.
What a difference it makes when you can get a straight forward answer.

Well, it helps when people ask straight forward questions :)

Noone stopped to explain that there is no such thing as a 800mhz front side
bus anyway ! ....well there is some Intel jargon about a cpu internally
"quad-pumped" fsb but, the memory for that is only running at 200mhz on the
motherboard. So what's the fuss all about ?

....now wer'e going to get overclocker claims and posts along the lines of,
...."my Buck Rogers liguid nitrogen cooled machine with a satellite dish
sticking out the top of the system box - which was really only an
xp1800(1.53ghz) when I started - is now running at 4 and a half gigahertz,
and is really reliable ...and so now I run benchmarking software all the
time now because I haven't been able to get any other application software
running properly. :-)

This would depend on your perception of the differences.
I have a P4 - 3.0 - 800 FSB - XPPRO and a P4 - 2.26 - 533 FSB -
XPHOME, both have 1GB duel channel ddr. _I can tell the difference_.
My setups are by far not the latest or the greatest, but they are both
fast and stable.
