I have a new system that I just put together. It has the SAME
components that many others that I have put together have. I keep
having XP crash with 34 minutes remaining. The video flickers and then
never comes back. Thinking that the video card was the issue, I put
the new one into another system and it works fine. Thoughts would be
appreciated.

Is it likely that the installation CD is faulty? How about using a copy
CD to install? Do you make backup CDs of original Microsoft CDs? You
will be surprised to learn that MS CDs become unuseable many times and
replacement is the biggest challenge, never mind the cost of media and
your own time!

I always make copy CDs before starting any installations and to make
things 100% full-proof, I also write down all product serial numbers on
the CDs itself (not on any paper sleeve which can get lost) using
permanent CD markers. Keep these in CD box next to your system so that
they are easy to locate. The originals goes back in the box it came in
and kept in a safe place to prove your authenticity of ownership should
this be necessary.

Usually related to a driver issue, try another video card for the
installation. Make sure you only have minimal components attached to
computer during the installation. Disconnect all USB components unless it is
a keyboard or mouse, disconnect printer, scanner, usb drives and etc.

This is often caused by having unnecessary USB devices connected during
the installation.

Setup stops responding with 34 minutes remaining
