I have seen some Microsoft downloads that ask if you want
the 32 bit or 64 bit version.

How do I know??? I'm using XP Home Edition

First of all, note that there is a 64-bit version only of XP
Professional, not of Home.

Second, anybody who has to ask the question is running the 32-bit
version. The 64-bit version requires special hardware. It and the
hardware have come down in price, but are still substantially
more expensive than the standard consumer PCs you see around.
Very few home users are using it.

If you have to ask, you have 32 bit. Few would spend the amount of money
required, or have the need, for the 64 bit version of Windows.

Greetings --

If you have to ask, you're almost definitely running the 32-bit
version of WinXP. (I'm sure you'd have noticed paying several
thousand dollars more for the Itanium or Itanium II CPU required to
run the 64-bit version of WinXP Pro.) Additionally, there is no
64-bit version of WinXP Home.
