I have just totally reformatted a 30gb hd and reinstalled xp home and office
and it is only showing as having 21gb free, where is all the rest?

Hi,

Windows+Office can chew up quite a bit of space depending on how much of
Office was installed locally. The pagefile on the root of the system volume
can also occupy a lot of space.

Have a look at the hard drive properties in "my computer" and see what
windows sees the "capacity" of your drive is. Mine is 120Gig drive capacity
122,926,776,320 bytes formatted to 114GB.
I suspect your 30GB drive is formatted around 28GB,
windows+office+pagefile+system restore+windows updates/SP can account for
7GB.

Just a thought
Neil

Thanks a lot guys

I think you can also recover some real estate by turning down the amount of
space that system restore uses.
