I have just bought a used laptop and it had 2 operating systems on it...98, 2000 I have tried to format it with my XP home CD (new installation) and it didnt instal over the existing systems...it just added a new one....while setup was in progress it asked me if i would like to delete the OS on the partitioned space and use the partitioned space to instal and i said YES....then it said that it couldnt delete the space because there was files needed....and there was only one space to choose from.
How do i get rid of all the installations and start new?

You are in posession of an older Laptop.

1. Make sure you check that it is 100% compatible with XP.
2. download and drivers and utility applications from the manufacturer's site.
3. copy them to a CD
4. format the Hard drive
5. Boot off the XP CD and start a clean install, use the CD you created for additional drivers and utilites as required

You can boot from Windows XP CD, start a fresh install (not upgrade) and
when asked on which partition you want to install windows, you have an
option to delete partitions (using "d" key). Delete them all and then press
enter on unpartitioned space. Windows will create and format partition and
then install a clean install with only one operation system.
