Thanks again for a quick and helpful response. 1 more question: What will
happen to the image file that is currently splitted in 2 sections.

I used Nero's "Copy DVD" command to copy a dvd [4.38gb] to my d:\ [Fat32]
drive. Everything went fine but now there are two files "Dvd.nrg" [3.99 gb]
and "Dvd.nrg.001" . I am using Daemon virtual drive to mount th image. Every
single file is ok but when i moved the .nrg.001 file to another folder, some
icon's and some files are missing from the virtual drive. After putting the
file back there, everything fine. I copied another DVD to another drive [e:\
Fat32] but the same thing again [one .nrg file 3.99 gb and one .nrg.001
file]. Now when i want to analyze any of the drive[d: or e:] with Diskeeper
, it gives me the error "ScanFat :Scan Aborted - Fatal Error -File: \\? <path
and name of the .nrg file>"
Q> Is there a restriction that one cannot copy file over 3.99 gb to a single
file, if yes how can i copy a normal dvd so that i can defrag the drive
without any problem?
Q> How can i defrag the drive now?

FAT32 has a maximum file size if 4GB.

Thanks for the quick responses but i want to know, is there any way i can
defrag the drive now and what are the benefits of NTFS other than compression
and security.

Compression does not even enter into the equation. Security and large file
support are the winners here.

Delete the files.

Thanks again for the quick responses.
Is it completly safe to convert the drive from Fat32 to NTFS because i don't
have any backup ?
And i can't delete the DVD file because i need it and i don't have the disk.

No, nothing is completely safe with computers and changing the file system
is a major operation. Normally it converts just fine but there has been at
least one post in this newsgroup recently where it didn't work, and the file
system was messed up. I don't know, but I don't believe he was able to
restore the data. You need to have a backup of the data before trying the
conversion. Also see this link before you do the conversion for an
important tip on cluster size.

I see you've fragmented this question into two threads. Not good.

You can try the conversion and if it doesn't work, do the format.
Personally, I don't think the split file is going to be usable. If
you're going to lose it anyway, it won't hurt to try the conversion
first.

Thanks, now I will burn the image to DVD then try to convert the drive and
if unsuccessful, format it. Can you tell me what is the best procedure to
format or convert ?

I'm not sure what your asking. If the conversion goes ok then the files
will still be there with all the other ones. Are you asking if the two
pieces will somehow be put together? The answer to that is no. I don't
know whether those two files are usable, in any event.

I have not seen the original post - however as you know Vista 64 bit is 3.6+
gigs - Vista 32 about 2.6 bits-will install on FAT32.

There is a link in this reply that I gave you some time ago for how to
convert. Make sure you read it to learn how to deal with the cluster size
issue. Format, if needed, can be done through Disk Management.

Many thanks to all you people especially Rock and Malke.
After reading about convert, I decide to format the drive. Can you tell me
the allocation size I should choose in disk management when formatting for
NTFS.

Ah.. I just Convert my drive D:'s File System to NTFS after taking the
steps
you told me [Thanks again]. Looks like everything is fine. For the last
step, i want to know how I check the things like cluster size etc. to be
sure that everything is OK.

You're welcome. From an account with administrator privileges go to Start |
Run. Type in cmd, click Ok. In the command window type in
fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo D: (substitute whatever drive letter you want to
check different drives)
In the output look at the Bytes Per Cluster line. If it was aligned
properly the cluster size should be 4096 (4K).

Finally, the bytes per cluster is 4096. Thanks, thanks and thanks for your
time and help
