3.5 floppy drive problems under XP Home

The "a" drive has never really worked right with XP. The drive appears to
write ok. Files sent to disk appear to be there on the disk under Windows
Explorer or My Computer. However, when I go to open that file on the same
computer or another computer, the file is corrupted and cannot be opened. A
disk created from another computer also will not open properly on this XP
machine. I've replaced the drive with a brand new one to no avail. I've
uninstalled/re-installed from Device Manager to no avail. I think my BIOS
settings are correct (not sure on that one but nothing I've changed seems to
affect the performance of the drive), so....where else do I go from here?
thanks,
Eric

Stop using floppy's. They don't hold anything, Are very slow, and are very unreliable. USB flash drives work as a nice portable alternative
they store more. are more reliable. and work on any halfway decent machine. oh and R much faste

Have you checked all your cables and connections between the motherboard and drive A? I assume you are using different disks to test the drive. If not you may have a bad disk.

but yeah. ditch floppies. I have a few but very rarely(never) use them.

how many "other" computers have you tried the floppies in? Since the XP
machine has a new floppy I would assume that it has its head alignment
set correctly, perhaps the other computer is really the problem.

moving floppies between machines has ALWAYS been problematic. As the last
poster said, floppies are a dieing breed. I'd suggest a ZIP drive for
this sort of task, a USB one can be moved between machines easily, tho I
like the built-in ones too - all my machines have one. Or maybe a USB
"key-drive" flash-type device. As everything becomes networked to gether
the need for this sort of device to transfer stuf is going to fade.

Good Luck.
