Hi,
I have a question? Is there any way to clear a flopy disk
in order to use it again.I have a lot of them with old
backups on them, that are from another time.
I'm kinda new at this and don't really know, any help
would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Bonnie

Hi Bonnie,

If you are sure you don't need what's on a certain disk, then just put it in
your computer, open My Computer and right-click on the Floppy Drive (A:) and
choose Format and click Start. All information will be wiped out and those
disks can be used for other things.

yes...and you should....
++++++++++++++++++++++
with diskette in drive a:
right mouse pick drive a: in mycomputer window.
select [format]
window opens ....pick [start] button.
takes about 30-45 seconds.

you might encounter a second small window that states it
can not be formatted.....it can not be formatted....best
thing here is break it apart and recycle the plastic
shell. cut and discard actual disk.

there also might be a virus on one....i found old one
wiht virus when i did mine weeks ago.....
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Thank you so much for all your help. Bonnie

You can put your floppy in your A:Drive, and FORMAT
DISK, it will warn you that you will erase all
information on it, as to make sure you don't delete an
important disk.

One good way is to do it from the Command Prompt (Start > Run > enter cmd
to get it) and enter format a: (or format a: /q to do a quick
format). One reason this is better is that it will automatically determine
whether the floppy is 1.44GB or 720KB and will format accordingly provided the
diskette has been previously formatted. Going to My Computer, right clicking on
the floppy drive and selecting "Format..." will only format at 1.44GB. It will
even try to do that with a 720KB diskette, making it unusable unless you first
do a full, unconditional format. And that can't be done in XP!

Oops!!! That would be a BIG diskette! 1.44MB instead of GB. :-o

Oh please Sir, that requires typing. And the switches will enable more
granular control over the format. A most poor showing on your part.

Tsk tsk.
