2nd Excel Instanation

Are there any problems associated with having a 2nd instance of Excel open
(New OS, MS XP recently installed on my computer (was NT). I cannot open a 2nd instance of excel and am being told that it is not advisable to have a 2nd instance of excel open - is there any truth in this?

I can't think what the problems of a second instance might, I regularly do
it and I am not aware of any problems.

When you do start a second instance, any automatically opened workbooks are
opened read-only, but I don't see this as a problem.
