255 Char Limit

I have a file in excel that I have to save as a formatted text. I save
it as a .prn file then bring it into Notepad or Wordpad to check data.
When I do this, it cuts off anything past 255 characters and puts them
at bottom of page. I then have to manually bring them to the end of
the line. Does anyone know of a way around this. I've been told this
is due to the 255 character limitation that Excel has. This
information is being fed into a preprocessor for our accounting system
and each line is 1 cell.

Please help!!!

Thanks:confused:

(.prn files will wrap after 240 characters)

You have a few choices (try against a copy of your worksheet):

I'd either concatenate the cell values into another column:

=LEFT(A1&REPT(" ",20),20) & LEFT(B1&REPT(" ",10),10) & TEXT(C1,"000,000.00")

Then I'd copy and paste to notepad and save from there. Once I figured out that
ugly formula, I kept it and just unhide that column when I wanted to export the
data.

If that doesn't work for you, maybe you could do it with a macro.

Here's a link that provides a macro:
