Hi,
I wonder if anyone can give me some advice please,my
setup is:
Windows xp home
MSI K7N2-L Motherboard
AMD 1800xp Processor
512Mb DDR Memory
120Gb HHD
Gforce 3 128Mb Graphics card
Would I see much of a improvement if I fitted a AMD
2500XP Barton processor,my motherboard will take a
maximum of 3000xp but I am thinking of the cost, any help
or advice would be very grateful,
Thank you,
Bill.

Yes bill you would see a noticeable increase in performance. You figure you are increase FSB by about 1 Gig or more if you can overclock that 2500+ Barton to run like a 2800+.

Keep in mind, AMD Barton cores are made to be overclocked in a round about way.

Hi,

I advise you on one thing. It is not only the processor that gives you the power but all the components assembled together and how you use your system.

Remember that everything has a limit and so do not try to go over the limit. Keep a check on how many applications you are using and you can get that extra ounce of power with additional RAM and plenty of free space.

I am having a AMD Athlon 2400+ and i am quite impressed with its performance by having 1 GB RAM and 160 GB HDD.

Michael and M.Rajesh,
Thank you both for your advice,I will be fitting a 2500xp
Barton processor as the price seems very good value,as
for the overclocking I am not so sure about, will see
about more memory when I can afford it,again thanks for
the advice,
Bill.

You will want to make sure you buy pc2700 ram (if you don't already have it)
if you want to take advantage of the 333fsb that the 2500+ has. Also your
graphics card will be a bit of a bottle neck in your system. I would suggest
a FX5700U or better or an ATI 9600 pro or better. Make sure you have a good
psu (one of the most over looked components) before you do alot of upgrades.
Antec, Thermaltake, Fortron ect... 400watts is good, more is better as far
as I am concerned.

Hi bikerbob,
I have 3200 ddr ram and a 400 watts power supply,I will
have to put up with the graphics card for now as I can,t
afford a better one just now, thank you very much for
advice,
Bill.
