Ok, I think I understand how the 2005 product line will be released.
Unless you buy Visual Studio, then you will be forced to buy an Express
Edition of an individual language.

My question now is, do these EE allow for development of windows *and*
web forms, or just windows? From the descriptions I've read, it seems
like it's just windows, but I can't imagine they'd just leave out
internet apps all together (although there *is* a separate EE for web
development, but I don't know too much about that one).

The express editions are free you do not have to pay for them... and yes
they are seperate for each language. And Yes you can develop both web and
windows applications, or in my case DirectX applications using the DX SDK
April 2005 release.

To develop the Web applications you need to use the Wed developer Express
edition, it uses all managed Languages to develop web applications only. To
develop Windows Apps you need the specific Express edition for the Language
you prefer.

That's not true, only the betas are free. The final versions are
supposed to cost $49 each.

These are the links I've been reading. From the product line chart, I
gather that the Express Edition of C# will not allow web forms
development. I'll need the VWD for that, right?

I guess this is why they are only $50. If you buy an EE for a single
language, and the VWD, then does that amount to the functionality of the
2003 edition of C#?
