Gone back to 2002 after 2003. When I click send/recieve
button, I get operation failed eror message.

Have removed and re entered email account.

Have tried changing profiles.

Can send and recieve via Tools>Send/Recieve>pop3 account.

Try completely uninstalling Outlook and then reinstalling it again. Be sure
to save backups first. Then when it's up and running, if it then works,
copy the backed up files to replace the applicable files in their new
locations.

Forgot to mention - 1st reinstall did not go well.
Complete uninstall ans reinstall done after that.

I'm at a loss - but here are some possible options:

1. Try customizing the toolbar and removing the button, then close outlook,
reopen outlook, and add the button.

2. If that doesn't work, I'd guess something happened in the registry that
didn't get "undone" with the deinstallation (or some 2003 DLL file didn't
get replaced with the 2002 version). In either case, it's something way
beyond me. Hopefully, one of the MVP's on here can help you.

Good luck!

You could also try the separate send and receive buttons to see if they work
if the combined button continues to cause problems.

Thanx for the help.. looks like it will be uninstall-
reinstall and start again.

I am picking from my searching that it is something from
2003, that has been left behind.

Yes, did the profile thing. no change. All service packs
and security updates completed after 2nd re-install.

Is it possible you need to reinstall the OS service packs as well as the
office ones?

Fixed it but forgot to backup pst. Had it in another
folder prior to backing it up, but had moved it back into
Local-App to do something else and forgot about it....

Remove the old profile (Control Panel>Mail). Restart
Outlook. Enter New Profile and details and it works.

Shame about the backup, but I do have the ultimate
backup - File cabinet full of paper.

Thanx once again

Glad to hear the problem is resolved. I assume you've checked your entire
drive (or network) for *.pst to see if, by some miracle, the old file still
exists somewhere and can be imported or replaced.

Did you check to see if it's in the Recycle Bin?

There are shareware programs and vendors who offer tools that can recover
deleted files from even formatted hard drives (depending on how it was done
and a whole lot of other things). You can check for them at www.tucows.com
or www.download.com if you really want to try to recover that old file.
