This stinks. The 2003 trial version doesn't warn you that the pst file is not compatible with previous editions. We have a 45MB pst file we can't convert, full of attachments and other business mail. Now we have no way to access those files short of buying something from Microsoft. I have a trial version of Outlook 2003 on my new laptop, but don't want to open it and get into it messing with my Office XP install. Is Microsoft working on a work-around, or are all the trial version users going to get nailed by surprise at the end?

If you roll back the system clock to within the trial period and reinstall
the trial version on the machine you had it on before, you should be able to
open Outlook 2003. Then create an Outlook 97-2002 format .PST file (you'll
get the option to choose the format when you click File | New | Outlook Data
File), copy your data from the 2003 file to the older format file, and
you'll have a file you can use with your older Outlook version. I agree,
Microsoft didn't do a very good job of warning trial users of this
incompatibility.
