2003 - Import New Custom Label

So we can't talk our secretaries out of using this crappy little label.

I've created a template and have it in my Tools > Letters & Mailings > Env.
& Labels > Options > Other/Custom. I also saved it as a .dot file on the hdd.

Rather then send out the .dot file, I'd prefer to have it available under
Env. & Labels. After creating the custom label I ran a search of my hdd and
found the .dot file, but other then some log, txt (more logging) and .dat
files there's nothing but shortcuts around that time.

So where was this saved and how can I get it out my secretaries?

Custom label defintions are in the Windows registry (regedit.exe) under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Custom Labels

Each label is a separate binary value.

You can export /all/ the custom label data using the File|Export option,
then if necessary, edit the exported .reg file in Notepad so it only has the
definitions you want. Then you can distribute the .reg file and each user
can import the values by double-clicking the file (as long as everyone has
the necessary permissions)

It's possible that these label definition can be made available to everyone
on a particular computer by using

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Custom Labels

instead - I really don't know.

Unfortunately not. Word does not see the label definitions at that location.
