Hello. Just so everyone knows, I am posting here after nearly 12 consecutive hours of looking at what appears to be 2 identically configured DELL desktops running XP Pro

Desktop #1- XP Pro/ CAT5 connection to Linksys Wireless-G Router. Router has 4 CAT5 connections as well as wireless G and B compatability. Sees home network and other 2 computers. Can access laptop

Laptop- XP Home/Wireless-G PC card. See network, other 2 computers and can access Desktop #1

Desktop #2- XP Pro/ Has a Wireless-B PCI card installed (can see internet using this card, but not network). Currently have card disabled. Have computer connected to router via CAT5. Have configured this machine in every way I can find the same as desktop #1. It can access the net, both the other computers can see it, but neither can access it. When I click on the computer's name from either of the other 2, I get the following message
"computer name" is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have the access permissions
The network path was not found
I get the same message concerning the network from desktop #2 when I click on the network on it.
I have made sure to share a folder on #2, I have disabled ICF, I have set NetBios Over TCP/IP, both desktops are set the same in every way I can set them the same
The only real discrepancy I can find is that on #1, under "ipconfig/all" Node Type is "Hybrid" and on #2 it is "unknown"
I can't find out how to fix this. I checked the registry key discussed in another thread, and "NodeType" was not in the key, and putting it in the key didn't help. What is really frustrating is that the problem I expected to encounter was making the wireless notebook running XP home talk to the 2 desktops running XP pro. Once I get a bunch of stuff off #2, I don't need to have them able to share files, it will only be for internet access for the family. This is more of a learning opportunity. I have already gotten all 3 up and on the net, with the router providing firewall protection. I just can't figure out what I am missing when I have 2 computers running the same OS plugged into a router and one won't show up on the network
Thanks in advance for your help.

On machine number 2, I modified the following registry key to match machine #1 without results
HLM\System\current control set\services\netbt\parameter
added the DWORD values DhcpNodeType 8 and EnableProx

It should work with the Wireless-B card disabled, same as the laptop works with the ethernet connection disabled when the wirelessG card is in. Desktop #2 now says "Hybrid" for "NodeType" in ipconfig/all, same as #1. They are visually identical, and connected to the router the same, and running the same OS.
