Lets say I have two excel files and need to eliminate the dulicates in one
file. How do I do that.

I'm trying to import a list of new contacts into act. First I'm exporting
the act database to act.xls. I also have newcontacts.xls. I'd like to prune
the duplicates out of newcontacts.xls so I can them import only fresh
contacts to act without duplicate contact errors.

Assuming by "duplicates" you mean that all columns are identical in the two
records, just open the 2nd file, copy the records to the bottom of the
existing list in the 1st file. Then Data/Filter/Advanced Filter, and select
the Unique Records option. If you Filter in Place, you can then inspect what
you have and copy the records to another location. Or you can copy to another
location directly from the Filter.
