OK...
I recently got a new motherboard/64bit processor. I installed them in
place of the system I had. Of course, like I expected, Win XP did not accept
the change and would not start up nomatter what I did (I tried EVERYTHING).
So being that I have 3 large hard drives, I chose to just install winxp on
another drive, Which worked like a charm. However, all of my extremely
important files are stuck on drive C: where the old non-working winXP is.
When I try to access them through the new winxp installation, it says access
denied. For example when I get into my documents and settings folder on my
old installation drive. I have thousands of mp3's and documents that I
cannot loose! Please help me out! Also, I how do I get rid of the boot
screen that has both windows installations on it at dos startup?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!

First - you should have performed a REPAIR INSTALLATION for a new
motherboard:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/tips/dougknox/doug92.asp
or
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/repaxp.htm
or
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315341

Secondly, you need to take ownership of the files..
As long as EFS is not involved:

How to Take Ownership of a File or Folder in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=308421

How to disable simplified sharing & set permissions
on a shared folder in Windows XP

I forgot to mention that I already did a repair install of winxp...the result
was the same at start up..it would go to the winxp loading screen then the
computer would restart...so then I decided just do a full install over the
older install...and at start it did the same thing. So basically, there is
no way for me to get into my old winxp installation! which means I cannot
set my permissions for sharing my old files, which I need very badly. So if
there is anyway I can access those old files from the old 'my documents'
folder on the old winxp installation on drive C: from my new installation on
drive E:, that would be awsome! Thank you very much!
