I've got professional edition and home edition installed and I want to
get rid of home edition. It doesn't show up in the add/remove
programs list and I really want to get rid of it and only have
professional edition running. How can I do this? Is it possible to
get rid of home edition without disturbing professional edition?

Hi Britta

Did you try to update XP Home to XP Pro? If so, did you see any error
messages?

You probably do not have both installed - which would imply separate
folders at least, probably separate partitions. You have two entries
for the two systems in boot.ini. Make sure you are booted to Pro, then
Go to Control Panel - System - Advanced and in Startup and Error, click
Settings. Then click Edit to load that to Notepad

Each system will have a line in [Operating systems] like
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Windows XP Professional"
etc
If these are identical, apart from the Pro or Home name at the end, just
delete the one for Home. If they differ (Different folder or different
partition number) you will also need to delete the folder referred to
with the Home version installed in it
