Jeff

I was installing updates from the MS website and my PC
became unresponsive. I rebooted after about 20 minutes.
When I rebooted, XP would not load. I then put the XP CD
into the CD drive and followed what I thought was a 're-
install' path. It wasn't. I now have 2 versions of XP
installed on my PC and the boot process defaults to the
new 'vanilla' version. What the heck do I do now?

If you can boot into the original XP installation, follow the steps in the
link below. If not, you may have done a reinstall and this would have
removed and replaced the Documents and Settings folder that contain your My
Documents and email addresses etc. with a fresh Documents and Settings
folder. Hope you had backups of your files, because they are gone.

I have the same problem, Jeff. I have two WinXPPro OS's
on one partition and don't know how to delete one of
them. Everything is backed up, so I can format if I need
to. But you can't format when there is only one partition
with the OS on it, right?

No you can't, but if you can boot to both installations in the boot menu,
try the link I included in the reply to Ron. If not you will probably need
to clean install.
