Q1
I've just installed a quiet PSU and CPU cooler. I've only now realised that
whenever I click on something in Windows Explorer (and maybe other stuff)
there is a quiet but audible click when I click on a folder or such-like. I
thought I could remove/change this using the same tool for changing the
start-up sound etc, but there does't seem to be a way to do so. Can I?

Q2
I use Internet Explorer a lot (which is why the 'click' thing bugs me!) and
I'm sick to death of having to resize the window and add the status bar
almost every time I run it (sometimes it remembers my previous settings, but
it's inconsistent). Is there any way (maybe using the registry) I can force
Explorer to open in a default location with default size and options?

You need to apply the 'remember more than 400 folder settings' fix from
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm. You want #2.
(Or the new version of tweakuiXP from the MS powertoys site can do the
same thing).

Having resized the window, and turned the status bar on (and clicked
'apply to all folders') you need to close the window with 'file exit' ..
using the 'X' doesn't always remember the settings.

Thanks for your reply, but there is no "start navigation" selection I can
find. And the sound is a 'click' not the startup sound (now *that* would be
annoying!)

Thanks, but I don't want a maximised window in IE or Win Explorer! I just
want a particular size and location.

Talking of IE though, when I open this for the first time, it always uses my
preferred size and location (or good enough) and status bar. Ditto OE. It's
just Windows Explorer that's doing me head in!

Scroll right down to Windows Explorer and look under there.

It's probably the annoying sound that's assigned to "default beep," although
it's definitely not a beep. Suggest you review each item sound can be assigned
to and specify "None" unless there happens to be a specific sound you want for a
specific function.

The default setup is much too "sound happy" for my taste. I don't want an OS
that sounds like a pinball machine!

My apologies, I didn't see that section for Windows Explorer. Its's just
after the net meeting stuff and I got bored just reading that out!

Well if you're that easily bored any further help would send you to sleep,
nitey nite.
