2 hard drives

I have 2 hard drives, 1 has XP os on it and the second
one has Windows 98 on it. I want to put them both in one
computer and be able to boot to either one of the drives.
The 98 has a program that will not print the maps when
used in XP. I guess I want the best of both worlds in one
unit. I have a Dell Dimension 8300 series, Intel Pentium
4 processor at 3.2ghz, 1024mb DDR SDRAM at 400MHz. I have
had no success getting into the 98 drive. Can anyone
help me with very detailed instructions or can it even be
done at all?

Thanks,

There is a software called Partion Magic that lets you
run two OS systems.

Good Luck,

Walt

You wouldn't want to use Partition Magic (unless it has extra features
that I don't know about). Windows XP will do this automatically for you.
Really what you need to do is to edit your boot.ini file. Problem is
that if your Windows 98 Installation wasn't set up on this computer, you
may run into problems. You may need to reinstall Windows 98 over the top
of itself on the second harddrive. That should edit the boot.ini file
for you. There are also good boot loader software programs available as
well :)

Thanks,

Have you experimented with running that old app under XP in
W9x compatibility mode?

You can use a program, such as Partition Magic to setup a
dual boot, but be aware that you can only boot one OS at a
time. Also W98 will not read an NTFS partition.

I have seen a shell that will allow you to run W98 in a
virtual machine inside W XP, but I don't remember the name
of the program. You might try Google.

There are two programs that I know of that will do that. First is VMware
and second is Microsoft Virtual PC.

Also, I still doubt the Win98 install will work properly if it was
installed on a different computer unless it had the exact same hardware
as the computer you put it in.
