(New computer w/Vista) When I try to create a 2nd e-mail account, message
says "pop-server.sc.rr.com" Account already exists in this name. Create a
unique name. What do I do now?

The account name is cosmetic, meaning it can be anything you want.
It has no bearing on the actual working parameters.

But it still doesn't work when I change the account name.

What do you mean by "it still doesn't work"?
What is the error message?

No error message. It just doesn't receive, although it does send.

No, that's not it. I set up both e-mail addresses the same way in "accounts".
It took one, but not the other. I changed "pop-server.sc.rr.com" to
"pop-server.sc.rr.com 1" per Gary's advice, but it still will not receive
mail at second address. Box is checked to receive both. Doesn't matter
which one is set for "default."

Careful where you make the change. It's OK to change the
account name on the General tab, but don't change the actual
server name on the Servers tab.

Click on the little arrow just to the right of the "Send/Recv" button.
The drop-down list should show both accounts. Click on that
second account. Does it appear to go through the motions of
contacting the server? If not, check out the General tab of
the Properties of that account, and make sure that "Include this
account..." is checked.

Try sending an email to the account that does not receive.

I had a similar problem with vista. windows mail opens all e-mails at
the same time (you don't change identities anymore). I opened windows
mail, tools then accounts. Added all of our addresses on this one page.
I prefer having to change identities, maybe they willchange it back.

OK, it's set to receive both accounts. It connects, then I get a pop-up box
asking for logon and password. I use the same as in the account setup. Then
I get error message saying incorrect logon or password. Is this something I
have to go to Roadrunner to fix?

Looks like we're making progress. :-)
If you are sure that you have entered the correct username and
password, then you could be experiencing account corruption
caused by your antivirus program. Windows Mail is not compatible
with most McAfee and Norton security programs. Those will need
to be uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see
http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3

If after uninstalling your antivirus, the problem with Windows
Mail persists, delete that corrupted mail account, restart
Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

Different mail servers want the account name written differently. Some want
(e-mail address removed) (substituting, of course) and some just want chris
(the part before the '@'.

Thank you both for your help. The problem turned out to be a different
password from the one when I originally set up the account on my former
computer. I finally found that one, changed the password in the new computer
and it's working fine now. Again, thanks.

By default, Windows Mail copies the POP server name as the account
name. However, you can change the account name to anything you want.
It is strictly cosmetic and has no influence on the functioning of that account.
