2 different alignments in 1 line using Word?

I need to write a technical paper with equations. I want the equations
centered and on the same line for the equation numbers to be aligned on the
right. Is this possible?

Yes- you can either use Tabs (left, center, right, decimal, or bar aligned)
or you can use Tables (even though it may only need to be 1 row tall).

A single-row, two-column borderless table is preferred if you're using the
Caption feature and will be creating a list of equations or using
cross-references. If you have the caption (number) and the equation in the
same paragraph, you'll get the whole thing in a TOC or cross-reference.
Putting them in separate table cells solves this problem.
