So my tech support guy deleted too much out of the registry in order to
remove a bad Norton AntiVirus - long story - so Windows XP crashed. He told
me to re-install it - which I did- in another drive (F:) b/c the one on C:
was corrupted. So now I want to remove the copy of XP on the C drive but
can't seem to do it! Tried formatting but it won't let me. Am I stuck with
it b/c it is on C:?
Any suggestions? I really like the idea of starting fresh but if I can't
then I am not sure how to fix the problem of corrupted files- I tried to use
the "fix" XP option but still had issues, which is why I went to the install
on another drive.
Thanks in advance...

I would disconnect that other drive and start with the XP CD in place.
And Basically do a new install into the old XP Directory. When all is said
and done with that version of XP working properly I would reconnect the F
drive and format that version of XP out of extistance.

Boot to xp cd,recovery, press enter key for password, type:DiskPart In
DiskPart delete old C: or if you want to clean up the whole drive, delete all,
then create one, then press ESC key.Type:EXIT If all were deleted,1 created,
reboot to xp cd,install xp.

Hi,

1. There is a norton uninstall utility that works and is painless. :o)
2. Or did you mean a virus. Either way.....
3. Why won't it let you format?
If you are still interested in doing so: use a Win98 boot disk.
Fdisk, Format, reinstall.
4. Good luck and keep us posted.

Norton Uninstall Utility, eh?... do tell... What Norton product do I have to
get for that?
I have tried to format via DOS command prompt and via Computer Management in
XP (off the good partition) and it gets 99% done and then gives me a good old
"cannot format" error - with no real reason - how rude!

Thanks for the help all - I have printed off several of the responses
hopefully something will work out -
and yes Keith - I won't be using this same tech support guy... got a good
laugh out of that post!
