I want to share the same dial-up internet connection...is it possible? I have
2 computers & 1 dial-up internet access...I have them hooked together with a
'cross-over' cable...both are running XP. I have set one up as 'host' & the
other as 'guest' but I have no luck! "Is is possible for the 2 computers to
be 'online' at the same time?" and "How is it done?"

Did you run the Network Setup Wizard and invoke ICS (Internet Connection
Sharing) so that the two systems can be online at once?

Your problem is using a dial-up internet connection. It will be very slow
when two systems are on at once. Cabe or DSL would be better.

That presumes cable or DSL broadband are available...Not everyone has access to those services...

No, I don't think it does. I have shared a dial-up connection using ICS
(while I waited for my ISP to get into the 20th century <G>) - it can be
done, though it is rather painful and slow.

Out in the wilds of the Ottawa Valley (East), we still only have dial-up..
there is a rumour going around that Sympatico will eventually give us high
speed, and yes, it is painfully slow in the meantime..

I am inquiring about this procedure using a dial-up connection...if it was
something other than I would,ve indicated that! What makes you so sure that
we even have DSL or Cable,(we do but that's beside the point)...but if you
would like to pay the inflated prices for either of them, I would gladly
switch to either one...I HATE dial-up but it's what I can AFFORD right
now..so now the big issue is (and I know it will be much slower) is...how to
be online at the same time? The 'slower' connection is just something I'll
'deal' with...at least I won't have to click off when my daughter wants to
use the net!

Thank-you for coming to my defense...I couldn't have said it better...cept I
might not have been so polite! Thanks again! Now, back to my networking
dilema...
