The person who set up 2 accts for me in Outlook misspelled one mailbox name
in the drop down box I see on start up. It does NOT affect function. How
can I correct the spelling??

Tools, accounts, view or change, highlight it, click change, click more
settings, change the mail account....

That doesn't seem right. First, there is no "Accounts" item under Tools,
except for Outlook 98/2000 in CW mode. The real name of the item in "E-mail
Accounts". Second, the OP said:

This indicates that he's seeing a misspelled profile name, since that's the
only thing that Outlook will ask about on startup.

The OP should open the Mail applet in Control Panel and use that to create a
new profile with the correct spelling of the name, if he wishes. Profiles
can't be renamed.

<g> Yeah, I always shorten stuffs... "E-mail Accounts" becomes "accounts"
when there's nothing to confuse it with.

As for the profile (yeah, seems I missed that one too... <g> what WAS I
responding to???) being renamed... You would think that would be an
option... I've rooted and rooted now, just to see, and I don't see any way
of accomplishing it. I created a profile with a funny name and then did a
search for said profile. Thus far the search has not been beneficial. I
don't suppose you'd happen to know where that data is stored? Maybe
something can be done to fix this oversight.

It's in the registry in the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOftware|Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows
Messaging Subsystem\Profiles

Well hmm... Thank you for that...

Renaming the account in the registry changed the name all around without
much of a problem or at least I haven't noticed any problems with it. Are
there any known issues that I'm over-looking? It still opened up just fine
with the new name and nothing appeared to be corrupted by this. I spent
quite a bit of time, probably a couple of hours now, playing with VBScript
code samples (I could not figure out how to get the thing to edit it) and
even dug around in TweakOMatic to see what they had that might be close
enough for me to start with and, alas, it seems like this would take longer
than I'm able to dig up for spare time.

If there's no known issues then it seems as if changing the registry value
(right click and rename) works just fine. I didn't see any issues and was
able to sign on to the profile with no problems though it wasn't as if the
account is setup to do a great deal, it was just made to test. Ah well, it
was an interesting couple of hours.

I can think of something. Several files in %AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook,
like the send and receive settings file, the autocompletion cache and the
navigation pane format must match the profile name in order to be useful.
