Hi

How can I make sure that if my Primary Domain Controller
is down, the second DC would replace it and all the user
profiles are kept intact ?

Is there anything I should do now in case this would
happen ?

Thanks

DC failure should not affect Your's users profiles, unless this DC acts
as File server for this profiles.

To make sure that in case of the first DC failure all Your services will
be available do two things:
- prepare the plan for the failure which will secribe two cases: the
first DC completly failure, and second - temporary first DC failure
- test this scenarios in the test lab environment.

Simple test which You can perform in Your productive environment (after
working hours) is to switch off first DC and test Your network if
everything You need is working as it should be.

You should have both DCs setup as DNS servers (ideally AD-Integrated) and
have the (DNS) clients configured to point to both. You will also need both
DCs to be Global Catalog Servers. Now authentication can still work when
one DC is down, and thus file system access should not be hampered (unless
the files reside on the downed DC <g>).
