I'm checking the operation of the Choke on a 1979 Celica. The Factory
Service manual mentions the choke opener and choke breakers, which I found
and checked out OK.

Then they mention the Choke linkage diaphragm, which I can't find. Are they
referring to the other two? Choke breaker diaphragm is on driver's side,
choke opener on passenger side (same as AAP) but I can't find what Toyota
calls the "choke linkage diaphragm.". Where would this be in relation to the
other two? (This car has the "Federal" emmisions systems).

I'm troubleshooting a fast idle condition. The car has been idling at 1300
rpm or so. When I hit the accelerator quickly, the idle drops to 800 rpm.
When I suspected the choke, I observed the butterfly OPEN while the car was
racing at 1300 rpm's, however. Could this be a linkage problem? Throttle
return spring?

Les than 800mhz, that's why Toyota's choke off the line without an updated
bios cow chip in their manifold.

LOL, I sold mine because I couldn't resolve "that" same problem. Every time
I hit 110mph I got "an illegal operation has occurred" and had to shut the
engine down and re-start to get going again!!!!

Three guys hopped into a '79 Celica with a 20R Engine, and the car
wouldn't start. One was a mechanical engineer, and he suggested to
check the choke linkage. Another was an electrical engineer, and he
said, "Maybe it's the battery." The third was a computer system
administrator, and he said, "Let's all get out of the car, then get back
in and try it again."

Did you ever try updating the driver?
