Hi

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit
Windows-based program

Could be caused a trojan or something similar, e.g.
TrojanDownloader.Win32.Dia.a, more about this here:

Also, AVAST (antivirus software) can be the cause (if you
have WinXP SP2 installed):

TexE2U says Colin's answer works great!!!

Try logging on to the site below, and downloading
XP_Fix.EXE
It took me literaly hours to sort this problem out,
and was cured in seconds after I had found out what to
do!!!

Some believe it is an SP2 upgrade problem:
Rock believes otherwise and has provided this info and
link:

"This has nothing to do with SP2, This problem occurs in
SP1 and earlier as well. There are a variety of
things that cause damage to or can delete the autoexec.nt
file. One of these is a trojan.
Scan your system for malware otherwise the problem could
come back."
See this link for info.

Thanks for the good info Rock.
Sorry for the confusion.
