16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem

When trying to install programs I get this silly error:

C:\Windows\system32\user.exe
TheNTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:06b5 IP:0105 OP:63 2b 6d c5 39 Choose 'Close' to
terminate the application.


has anyone got a clue what's going on???
 
Try this:
Go to Start, Help & Support and search for COMPATIBILITY
and read the section on Getting Older Software to run on
Windows XP
