How do I set up a PPT presentation for display on a plasma
without distorting text and images?

You can go here, and down load a template http://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/media/student/index.asp or you can click on File | Page Set Up, set the width to 16, and the height to 9 and then Save As, selecting Design Template (.pot) as the type. then whenever you need that format use the new from template, and select your creation.

Ron,

The answer doesn't really have much to do with PowerPoint. Video output is
a function of the video card and most are set for a 4:3 ratio. Some video
cards allow for a 16:9 ratio if the right device drivers are installed.
WARNING: Do NOT switch it to a 16:9 ratio while hooked to a standard
monitor. The result will likely be a burned out monitor!
