I have been using my dv camera and firewire with no problems for a year (have
had SP2 since it came out) And all of a sudden, it seems to have stopped
talking to the camera. Nothing has been moved, everything is still connected,
the camera works on someoen elses machine, and i've tried a different cable,
so its neither of them.

Have also uninstalled the 1394, and then let XP find it and reinstall it.
Device manager (as usual) says its working properly, its just not 'seeing'
the camera (have tried through 3 different programmes, so its not a software
issue either)

The only thing i can think of, is I have run a number of spyware / adaware
type programmes to get rid of some nasty problems i had, and am now wondering
if they maybe deleted something they shouldnt have?

am entirely open to any suggestions, as its driving me mad!!!!

cheers

Think I might have had the same problem. power down the PC connect your dv
camera and turn on. then reboot the PC, the dv should be detected
automatically it worked for me and must be worth a try. also there is a
discussion group for video where you may get a better answer.

you might want to check and see if windows has turned you firewire conection
into a network device and wether or not it is enabled, bridged, or has some
funcky port blocking going on with the firewall for the device. I once had
mine bridged with a network card to give inet access to my laptop when my
network switch went down. This created alot of problems and took me a while
to figure out.
