1394 connection

Hi,
I have been having trouble getting my D-Link router to
work, so I can connect 2 computers to the internet. I have
tried three different routers, and have done all the right
things when doing the install. I still can`t get the
newest router to work. Does the 1394 connection in my
network connections have anything to do with it?
Many people I have talked to with routers don`t even HAVE
that icon. Does it need to be disable for this router to
work? If so...why is it even there?
I have recently formatted my drive, and have ALL the
Windows updates installed, including sp1,2, and all the
rest.
Please help.

Hi Gary
the 1394 connection is your firewire port. Windows detected it automatically
and decided that it could be used for networking, so it bridged it to your
NIC. A network bridge turns several separate network devices into a single
virtual "super-nic" with its own single MAC/IP address. You can easily
delete the bridge between the 2 by right clicking and selecting the
appropriate option from the menu. You'd only need it if you wanted to create
a more complex configuration so you should be able to dump it with no
problem.

What do you mean by the D-Link router not working? If you've had the same
problem with several it sounds more likely to be something you're not doing
right Please give a better description of what's not happening.
