I just did a virgin install of Windows XP with SP2 integrated. I run
Windows update, and if I select all the optional and hardware updates,
I get 68 of them for a total of 117 MB. Is it just me, or is it about
time for SP3?

Just click Express not Optional. Express downloads critical patches only.
That's all I do. Then if there's one in the Optional list you do want, pick
it out and install it.

They are working on SP3, look for it after the launch of Vista, (if they
make Vista deadline), about Jun-Oct 2007.

If you get any problems with the download of all these criticals then do not
forget to post in the windowsupdate group.
The best of luck with the download.

Do not get hardware driver updates from the Microsoft Update site.
Those should only be obtained from the device manufacturer's website,
from the computer OEM's website if it's a major OEM, or the motherboard
manufacturer if integrated on the motherboard.

Choose the Custom installation method, review the updates and only
install the ones you want/need. Not all are needed, though it still
will be quite a few.

Hi,

It is, but don't expect anything to happen until after Vista is release.
