Hi,

When I tried to delete a folder, it took long, so I stoped it and decided to
see what it was, and it was a 11.2GB folder in a folder full of pictures, wtf
is it there for? do you know, I tried google.

desktopfile112gbsuddste223fo4.jpg

any ideas? Is it useless? Can I delete it?

Thanks for reading this thread,

You do not have file extensions set to show.

That is not a folder, it is a file.

Desktop.ini is what the file really is.

I have never seen a desktop.ini file bigger than about 1KB.

Try deleting the desktop.ini file and just wait it out.

It might not hurt to...

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.

You might want to start in Safe Mode to run your antivirus and anti-spyware
software.

Running a full system antivirus scan or anti-spyware scan in Safe Mode can
be a good idea. Some viruses and other malware like to conceal themselves
in areas Windows protects while using them. Safe mode will prevent those
applications access and therefore unprotect the viruses or other malware
allowing for easier removal.

right, thanks, quick reply! but why would it be 11.2GB? Is it a system
error? If I deleted it, would it make more space on my HDD?

Thanks for the reply!

I have no idea if it was a system error or some malware/virus at work.
If I deleted it, would it make more space on my HDD?

Yes. 11.2 GB (12,122,394,624 bytes) worth. That file is bigger than my
hard drive (10 GB).

File system folders are commonly displayed with a standard icon and set of
properties, which specify, for instance, whether or not the folder is
shared. The Desktop.ini file is a text file that specifies how a file
system folder will be viewed and handled. The most common use of the
Desktop.ini file is to assign a custom icon to a folder.

I have 274 desktop.ini files on my machine. The largest one is less than 1
KB in size.

It completly erases the file (although takes longer) leaving no traces (like
emptying recycle rin).

So this strange thing accomplishes in one stroke what anybody can do by
deleting a file and emptying the recycle bin? Now, if really clears the
file, that is a different case.
Most recycle bins cannot hold an 11GB file, hence Windows just deletes the
thing.
