100 CPU useage after installeding AOL Instant messenger update

hello,

earlier today i installed the AOL IM update and ever since, the fan on my
laptop has been one and i checked in task manager and the usage is at 100%.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

i forgot to list the 2 programs that are each using at least 40%
msimn.exe and syntpenh.exe
does anyone know what these programs do?

msimn.exe is Outlook Express. Apparently syntpenh.exe is the Synaptics
TouchPad Enhancements driver.

that's scary because i didn't have outlook express open.
my laptop does have a touchpad.
i really think there is something going on.

I am having the same EXACT problem with Windows 200...

My laptop is suddenly running very slow and it is very hot and when I check my performance it is always at 100%. syntpenh.exe is using 75% and csrss.exe is using 30%

Any idea what can be done?

Any help would be appreciated
 
hi russ,

i had spyware software on my computer that was installed with the update for
aol instant messenger.

i downloaded spybot, ran it, found and deleted the spyware and all was well
again.
