Lawrence

I'm not particularly 'puter literite and would like some
general suggestions about where to start in tracking down
a problem. My cable internet connection is as slow as a
bad dial-up and I've noticed that it uses 100% CPU both
while I load a page and for a short while after. My ISP
assures me that the connection is not problematic. Since
I've done a recent reformat I rechecked my drivers for
Windows, video card and motherboard. Reupdating them did
not solve anything. I next installed Spybot and, while I
did find some adware, removing it did not help. What else
can affect how my computer interacts with the web?

Lorry - is it downloading hotfixes, norton updates?? Is
it 100% all the time as soon as you connect or just when
you visit a certain number of sites - give us some more
data...

Thanks for replying. The CPU meter hits 100% each and
every time I connect to a webpage. Doesn't matter how
many sites I try, happens every time and takes forever.
I'm running XP pro and there are lots of hotfixes in
there. Drivers are updated, there are no viruses or
adware, connection to ISP is fine and firewall is updated
and working.
I understand noboby can fix this for me given only the
poor descriptions that I can offer. Therefore I'm looking
for the next general direction that I should head in.
Think big picture. Might it be hardware or software?
Windows or IE? Once I have the genereal topic it might be
related to I'll do the research and look for the specific
problem.
Thanks again.

download spybot....think its better then adware and do a
thuro scan.....you are being traced way to much from
spyware

try deleting index.dat from the temporary internet cache folder.it will
reset itself.
