Hi,

I seem to have a strange one here.

My system (Windows XP Pro SP2) runs fine (almost). Now more so than ever,
during the day I find that system is almost un-responsive. I check the task
manager, (after it open with much delay) and see that one of the
applications is taking 100% CPU. I kill that application and CPU drops,
system is functioning fine. After only a few seconds (5-10) another
application takes over CPU and maxes it to 100%. I kill that one and another
takes over until my system is totally un-responsive and I have to hard-boot
it. I run symantec Corp AV and also have MS Anti-spyware. none show
anything. I also ran McAfee Stinger but didn't find anything. There is not
set time when this happens nor there is any particular application that
start it. Any ideas?

Thank you.

What are these applications/processes????????
Antioch

These are you regular, normal applications. For Example, Word, Excel,
outlook, MSN Messenger, Outlook Express, Internet Explorer etc. nothing
special about 'em.

turn off your indexing service..

disk cleanup and defrag ..

let us know

So you see, no one has an exact answer for you. Neither do I. But I have
found, over a number of years, that eventually every computer slows down. I
have a general theory that all the software in your computer has the ability
to get tangled up with other bits of software. Just one of those things. You
can spend weeks trying to find an answer. Good luck to you if you can. I find
that the best thing to do is back up all data and wipe the hard drive clean.
The you can start all over again. It's a bore I know, but nothing works
perfectly forever.

hehe, Thank you :-)
I would hate to have to rebuild this system. It would take me months to
bring it to same level of applications and configuration. :-)

I think I have fixed my issue using some of the other recommendations. I
simply disabled Indexing service and everything seems to be working so far
:-)

How do you disable the indexing services and this may indeed be tied to
my issue and what do the indexing services do. It is strange that this
problem is not advertised more about by Microsoft since it is clear that
it is an issue with XP.
