100% CPU - painfully slow operating

My XP system windows task manager - shows 100% CPU
utilization...processes section shows a program
EVNTSRC.EXE as the CPU 'hog'. What is the purpose of
this exe? Why does is spike my CPU (P3)? when I remove
this .exe my system becomes a little unstable.

I just uploaded sp1a and installed....still spikes cpu..

Please help me find some solution

It is not a standard component of the system, so I would do a search for
it, then r-click, Properties and investigate on the Version page where
it came from and possibly what it is for
