0.98gb is equal to 512mb!!!

when i open up system it says i have 2 0.98gb of ram. Can you explain why
it does not that the ram is 1024 mb. Is this mean that the .98gb equal to
512mb? I do appreciate your kind advise.

First, 1GB(binary) is 2**30 = 1,073,741,824 (decimal)

1MB(binary) = 2**20 = 1,048,576 (decimal)

Do the arithmetic, you'll see that 1MB *1024 = 1GB.

As for the rest of your question: I don't understand what you're
talking about. .1GB and 1024MB are two ways of saying exactly the same
thing.

But .98GB is definitely not equal to 512MB, where are you seeing
512MB? As a shot in the dark: some computers use some of their system
RAM for their on-board video, resulting in less for the operating
system to use;.

Tim, I think it's a quirk. Divide 1000 by 1024 and the answer
is.... .98. Strange. Something is backwards. Instead of
dividing the binary value by 1024 to get the decimal value,
it's dividing the decimal value by 1024. I tried it on my
laptop with 2GB of RAM (2048MB), and System correctly
said 2.00GB. It's almost like the OP has 1000MB, binary.

Locate, download and install Belarc Advisor, so as to get a
better :listing: of your hardware. The details on the System "applet"
can tell the wrong info sometime. You might be able to fix this by
installing the correct motherboard chipset drivers. Chipset drivers
give the detail on how to find the motherboard "components."
