sidewinder force feedback pro with windows xp

john

I tried to connect a sidewinder force feedback pro joystick with a 15
pin connector with a usb gameport adaptor to windows xp mce and cannot
get it to work. I have tried to add the joystick from the game
controller icon from my control panel (add device using the 'Microsoft
Sidewinder (Auto Detect)') and i get an error message - your gameport
or gameport drivers are not properly configured. Please consult the
device manager. How can I fix this issue?

Hi john,

Sounds like you need to update or reinstall the gameport drivers for your PC.
If your gameport is integrated on your soundcard, you'll need to get the
latest soundcard drivers. Gameport technology though, is long outdated..

With an adapter that came with the joystick? Game port force feedback
controllers are MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) devices
which DON'T use any of the game port's joystick axis or joystick button
circuits. The bi-directional nature of the game port's MIDI circuitry in
REQUIRED to send the force feedback signals to the controller.

Any adapters that come with force feedback controllers are special Game
port-MIDI to USB adapters. Many of the adapters sold separately are
analog joystick to USB adapters with absolutely no MIDI capabilities.

A few force feedback controllers have alternate serial port connection
provisions.
