Recognizing camera in MM

Hello,
When I try to begin to record a video through Movie Maker and go to
"Import from digital video camera" I get a pop up telling me that "a
compatible digital video device could not be found". I just bought and
installed Microsoft's Lifecam NX 6000 webcam but it won't be recognized.
Could anyone shed some light on this problem? Thank you very much. By the
way, this is using Windows Vista.

I don't have Vista or WMM for Vista but you couldn't use WMM in XP to
reliably capture video from a USB device. According to PJ's site
information you can't do it in WMM for Vista with any analog output device.
I don't know if this camera outputs in a format that WMM can capture but it
appears that it doesn't..

reveals the following quote for Vista WMM

"If you have a DV camera that supports streaming over USB (also called a USB
Video Class [UVC] camera), you can connect the video camera to your computer
by using a USB 2.0 connection. To determine whether your DV camera supports
USB streaming over DV, check Windows Device Manager and determine if the
camera appears as a "USB Video Device," or check the documentation that came
with your DV camera or go to the manufacturer's Web site.
For information about what type of connection to use and how to connect your
DV camera, check the documentation that came with your camera or go to the
manufacturer's Web site."

When I checked the specs for the camera it said nothing about USB streaming
ov DV. Don't think this camera will be able to be used with WMM in the
manner you want.

Does the camera come with software to create a video file? Remember that
WMM also doesn't like mpeg created files and any program you use to
"capture" your web cam information with will need to produce a wmv or avi
output file or you will neeed to covert the mpg file for import to WMM.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my post. In the past I have used
a different video webcam to capture video with Movie Maker. But with this
new camera and Vista I can take a video with the camera's software itself,
then open it in Movie Maker okay. I have been having problems with
video/audio sync with the camera's software and wanted to try it in Movie
Maker to see if that would make a difference. But it doesn't. Ugh. I may
end up returning this NX 6000 webcam to seller and trying a different one but
this happened with two different cameras which leads me to believe that the
problem may lie with my audio driver. Thanks again for the information.
