Publishing from FrontPage XP

Steve

I have not been able to publish to my web site
www.tehcc.org since I started using Windows XP and
FrontPage XP - after entering my domainname and password,
a long pause of 2-3 minutes occurs, and then I receive
the error message "The server could not complete your
request. Contact your Internet service provider or web
ser administrator to make sure that the server has the
FrontPage Server Extensions or SharePoint Team Services
from Microsoft installed. For more specific information,
click the Details button."

Pushing the Details button shows "500 Internal Server
Error Internal Server Error The server encountered an
internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to
complete your request. Please contact the server
administrator, [no address given] and inform them of the
time the error occurred, and anything you might have done
that may have caused the error. More information about
this error may be available in the server error log."

When I try to open www.tehcc.org in FrontPage, I get a
timeout error. When I try to recalculate hyperlinks or
re-install FP extensions, after a few minutes I get a
page not found error message.

My web service provider (Yahoo) says they don't see any
problems, and suggest I revert back to FP 2000, which is
not an option for me. Are there any settings in
FrontPage XP that I should check? Any help much
appreciated - thanks....

Try some of these, then post back if they don't work.

1) Clear the FrontPage Temp folder and clear all the .web files here:
C:\Documents and Settings\User.Domain\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server
Extensions\Cache

{Retry Publishing in FP by File | Publish}
if not, then

2) If using a proxy server. try adding an proxy exception in your Internet
options | Connections Tab | Lan Settings (assuming you are on a LAN
Connection) | Advanced... | then www.domainname.com in the Exceptions box.

3) Create a network place to your site, then publish to that location in FP.

Hope one of these work, thinking that the first one will.

Unfortunately none of these worked:
1. I cleared the two directories; publishing yields same
result. I'm assuming the FrontPage Temp folder is
c:\Documents and Settings\user.domain\Local
Settings\Temp\FrontPageTempDir
2. I am trying to publish from my corporate LAN, and when
I turn off the proxy server and publish, it says I am not
authorized. I will try this from home tonight.
3. I can't do this; when I click on File | Publish Web,
it starts trying to publish to www.tehcc.org, without
asking where I want to publish to. The Options box is
grayed out.

Thanks in advance for your help...

I found and fixed the problem. With FP 2000, I was
publishing from C:\Documents and Settings\s35614\My
Documents\My Webs\TEHCC.

With FP XP, I was trying to publish from the same
source. However, Publish Web would publish from
C:\Documents and Settings\s35614\My Documents\My Webs
i.e. it would never add TEHCC to the source name.
Consequently a subfolder called TEHCC was added to my web
site at Yahoo, and my docs were published there.

I solved the problem by deleting the TEHCC folder at
Yahoo, moving all my docs one level up to My Webs, and
deleting the TEHCC folder in My Webs.

I can't explain how this caused the server errors that I
was encountering.

Anyway, thanks for your help!

Did you also clear the web cache file (*.web)
Usually in:
c:\Documents and Settings\user.domain\Application
Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
