Outlook 2007 - when sending

Problem 1:

Since I first put Office 2007 in, when sending email through Outlook 2007,
if there is only 1 email to go out, it sits there not actually being sent
until I TELL it to go. If there is one sitting there already and I send
another, that forces the first to go and holds on to the second etc.
Eventually, left to its own devices, Outlook 2007 WILL send it but never
straight away. Has anyone any idea why please?

Problem 2:

Also since I first put Office 2007 in, having used Outlook 2002 prior to
that without this problem in it, when I have that one email to go out and
force it to do so my clicking on the option "Send all" (not "Send/Receive"),
it immediately sends that message but if I watch the counter in the bottom
right of the Outlook 2007 bar, it may count from, for example, 17-24 and act
as if it is sending 7 messages when I am only sending the one. I know there
is no nasty on my machine causing that and there is only ever the one email
going. This problem never occurred with Outlook 2002 but immediately after
updating Outlook 2002 to Outlook 2007 with the Office 2007 install, this
started. Is there any reason this happens at all please?

Thanks for any replies.

On problem #1, is the "Send Immediately when connected" option checked here:
Tools menu > Options > Mail Setup tab

Does the item get sent when your mailbox is polled for new mail items?

I have had a similar issue with Outlook 07 sending "9 of 9 items" when
starting the program when nothing is in the outbox. I tried the MDB tool
Brian suggested, but i show no items in any folder to deactivate. the tool
download is labeled for Exchange Server 2003, too. Any other suggestions for
what the issue could be? Is another [malware] program hijacking my email
client and sending out emails without my consent/scheduling?

Set up this. Get a test email ready to go but before sending, change to your
Outbox and then click to send the message. You will see it appear and
eventually disappear. It isn't malware. It is some oddity in Outlook 2007.

Yep. As stated in the first message, leave it alone and eventually it goes.
I have auto polling enabled so it goes then.

More info on this:

All but one email account are on my domain. One account is from my ISP so
thinking it may just be a timing issue, I sent an email OUT through my ISP's
SMTP server and it went just fine. Sending through my domain, hosted in USA
while I am in Australia, seems to be the problem. All I can assume - without
proof - is that if there is a timing issue, it just eventually gives up
sending without an error message and then tries again when made to do so by
me or the scheduled polling next occurs. If there is no timing problem at
that point, out it goes. It is all I can come up with. The obvious answer to
my problem, now, is to send out all email through my ISP but it still
doesn't answer the problem. I was under the impression that, for whatever
reason if an email doesn't go out, you get an error message. It may be that
you don't.

I did as you said: set the test email up, switched to Outbox view, clicked
"send" on message and the message appeared in my Outbox. I then clicked
"Send/Recieve" (manually) and saw the status start at about "sending 6 of 6"
going up to 9 (again) without 9 items leaving the outbox, just the one i set
up. Hmmmm.... I have responded to read receipts before and tried to use the
tool Brian T suggested w/ no success (couldn't see any errant receipts in any
folder).

So I go on believing that there is some oddity in Outlook 2007 - it just
disturbs me that i "know" that there is a possibility that emails can be sent
without any control or resolution....as I am seeing an illustration of some
errant send function. Thanks for your help.

If this were happening to me, I'd simply start with a fresh PST, moving to
it all the data from the old one, with the exceptions of the contents of
Outbox and Deleted Items. There's no way Outlook can try to send messages
from an Outbox that's newly created.
