OT,

Anyone remember the "infamous" comment Mr. Gates made about cars; and the
auto industrys rebuttal?
Well, just to add some humor in here-once and awhile

The Wall Street Journal reports that Ford and Microsoft have decided to
sync. At the Detroit Auto Show and the Consumer Electronics Show in January,
the two firms will jointly announce Sync, an in-car navigation and
infotainment system built on Microsoft's platform.

That "comment Mr. Gates" is a myth which is why no one can ever cite the
source where Gates said it.

No, you got it all wrong. It is called "Windows Live Automobile", even
though it speeds more time dead than alive. Moves at the speed of li - I
mean Vista.

Unfortunately, the battery doesn't last as long as before, so if you
hibernate the car for a while, you will need a jump.

infotainment system

Does that mean I can get interactive directions from clippy while playing
voice-activated freecell?

Hmm..

Me: "Computer, select the eight of hearts."

Clippy: "<tink, tink> I recognized 'apply the breaks hard.' Is this
correct?"

Me: "Noooo!"

Clippy: "Activating breaks."

Hmm... and it gets updated how? One drives one's Ford into the dealership...
the service guy hooks it up to their network... and, BANG! Can you say
"Those idiots put a virus in my F150?" So now when I turn on the radio my
lights all start blinking like strobe lights.

IT'S A FEATURE! Mwah-ha-ha!

How's that for self depreciating humor?

Just wait until you try to change the oil and can't run the car because
you changed the hardware.

Or your car won't start because validation screwed up. Why validation?
Cause there are car thieves out there and you might be one. Where did
you get your keys?
